These women chant ‘a, a, ants’ as they learn to read for the first time. Their village were former adherent of the John Frum Cargo Cult which rejected education along with other forms of government intervention. However now, Presbyterian Christian mission has been able to bring literacy. While there are primarily motivated by being able to read the Bible for themselves, they may also be empowered in other ways. They are using teaching materials created by World Vision.
