Disaster relief supplies arrive in a village in North Tanna. This village was one of the later ones to receive these packages. Given that most people had got on with their lives by this time, the goods felt a bit like an award for having survived.
Tonnes of sandalwood were being exported from North Tanna after Cyclone Pam. Sandalwood is normally a major export commodity for the area, but sales peaked after the cyclone when trees were damaged. It fetches about $30-$50/kg. This small community alone might earn over $30,000 this season. Here, the bark is being removed before sale.
